Mortimore made Literature Fun!!

This semester I was a little nervous about taking a literature class because I ABSOLUTELY HATE TYPING PAPERS!!!!! But getting to this class I really enjoyed it. She made the readings relate to our everyday lives. I loved ready the books, although some were confusing in the beginning. My favorite thing about the class was that she listened to us, and she knows what students like as far as learning and keeping the class in tuned and up while lecturing. Learning that we are becoming the dumbest generation and that using a lot of technology makes us ignorant to hard work. The readings suprised when I noticed hw well the readings actually connected to us. My favorite reading was "The Hunger Games". Another reading that was nice was the "Feed". These reading explained to us that we are living in ways that will soon effect us. In the feed it was mainly targeting the fact that we depend on technology and we are becomming dumb to the world around us. The Hunger Games explained that we watch to much reality television. Watch the Drama, the fights, and watch the crying. Why must we watch it? What are we getting out of it? Having this class really allowed me to questin my self and what Im doing in my life. I Love Professor Mortimore, and I loved the class. I enjoyed my group members too!!! This class was exellent.

A World With No Books?????

A world without books would be horrible. Although I do not like to read to my self, I find it fun when reading to a child. I know LOTS of people who actually enjoy reading books and its their hobby. I think that books have excellent descriptions and detail that all movies do not. Books are not the enemy but they are not fun (all the times). Majority of the time, I only pick up books when required for a class which an assignment or test was given. If you place a text book in front of me I will not open it unless it is math or something of the sort. I do not read novels or I do not like literature. Well I must say that I love African American literature. The literature that is from or talks about slavery or even Science.  But I must say that People will not have intellect if that were to happen.

Blog #8:

The Hunger Games, I must say was one of the best books that I have read thus far. I remember saying that, reading is the subject that I hate most, and that I never sit down and decide to read a book. This book was very exciting, I didn't want to stop reading. In my opinion, no other book that we have read thus far is like this one. Maybe feed was close but this had my eyes glued and I would want to see the movie and read books that follow the first one. Reading this reminded me of the show "wedding wars" and how they compete for the wedding of their dreams. I chose this show because their was one episode where they had to eat this cake with dog food in it. http://www.vh1.com/video/wedding-wars/full-episodes/episode-3/1660663/playlist.jhtml

Blog #7 We Love the Drama

I love to watch Reality TV. I watch probably majority of them that are out. But one of my favorite shows is called Basketball Wives. This show is based on the ex-ballers wives or current wives and how they live. Yes there is always drama, crying, and laughter. I think that we all love these types of shows for the drama that they have and how they interact with each other. I believe that the drama is real but some aspects may be false. I mention that it is a little false because we have to remember that its television and they get paid off of ratings and viewers. But I do believe that majority of shows do the same thing. I think that although it is entertainment, we love the suspense of what is going to happen next. Like with this show they discuss their marriages, how and why they are either still together or separated. And I some what relate because watching them gives me a sense of what not to do in a relationship. Also because my boyfriend is basically training for the NFL, there is a wide range of things that go on that these women prepare me for, watching and listening to their personal stories.

Blog #6: "Big Brother"

In the book, I couldn't think of one particular person or thing that was to be the "Big Brother", but this was the person who kept everything in order and watched over everyone. But in our society today I believe that we have something like it but I wouldn't call it a "Big Brother", but we have those who watches over us and keep us in order. Some people will say that their "Higher Being", the Government, and their societies keep them and watch over them. In our societies we also have Police officers, and every where a person go, they now have cameras and video cameras recording everything. I believe that we have to much privacy in some cases. I believe that it is actually getting worse in our communities when dealing with crimes and things like that, and help is always late rather than on time.

No Technology has good intentions!!

Okay, I must confess that I have had a great week with using less technology as possible. I found my self liking to go out and take walks around campus and off campus with my boyfriend. I also spent a lot of time dorm hopping. Visiting my friends all around campus and sharing laughs with everyone. I remember that this past weekend, we took it old school, we played truth or dare and I must say it was fun. but this last week was very productive because I had no choice but to get all my homework done.  Because of the lack of technology I would have been forced to look over my syllabus and see what assignments I have coming up and would probably start most of my work ahead of time.  Not having Technology around I would probably read, in which reading would be the only entertainment I would have useful. Also, this experiment didn't say anything about going to the mall or spending money. So I ended up going to the mall to either walk around and or to buy something. I found this very soothing. But today is the last day, So I am wondering if I will continue to use less technology or when today is over just act as if this experiment never happened.

No Cell phone Use Pt2:

Well, Lets start off by saying that I was late to class. Secondly, having to walk all the way to the lab to do work, just because my lovely laptop has a virus. Thirdly, I think I am going through it, I want to text my friends so bad but I can't. But I think I am going to have another productive day. Just because I have so much work to do, and I can not do anything but get it done. I have been very consistent with this experiment. My phone has been off, so in order to talk on the phone or get in touch with other folks, I have my friends call them for me and then tell me. The most technology that I have been using was a calculator and that has been for my ridiculous and aggravating math life!!!!!! I'm just waiting for this to be over. And of course it has been very hard not to use or even listen to music!!! YOU TRY SINGING TO YOUR SELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No cell Phone Use!!!

Okay I'm here to say that this has been one of the worst experiments I have ever done!!! The Positives of it were that I got alot of studying done, and enjoyed the company of my close friends and my boyfriend!! I'm absolutely upset that I couldn't watch my favorite television shows ever, such as the "Kardashians", "Basketball Wives", and "What Chili Wants", omg I feel so lost and incomplete, I have three days left of this. Well at least I can study for my exams this week and not have any distractions. Because I couldn't use the cell phone or the computer, I found my self at the gym alot. this weekend was actually nice so I ended up having a great time with my boo, and he even joined forces to not use the cellular device.

Blog# 4: "Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life? We are determined to be starved before we are hungry"

This week was a very interesting one. The readings and discussions were great and I really got into it this week. The Novel "Feed" was also great. It triggered some alert on a few subjects as I continued to read.  Reading this book made me wonder if our society is trying to become to advanced to soon. Or, if we are trying to put technology before everything else. Which made me consider this quote from another reading this week:
"Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life? We are determined to be starved before we are hungry".
So the question would be "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?"
I do believe that this quote has significant meaning because it tells us that we are too much in a hurry to do anything. So I'm applying this to my theory that we are rushing to get futuristic and be advanced in technology and not considering what we are doing.

Blog# 3: Being called "The Dumbest Generation" True or False??

Being called the dumbest generation was not fair and not truthful at all. I believe that we have come to a point where we do not have to remember so much to go on further, we have the technological  resources that we can turn to and find answers quicker than before. I do understand that we should be able to recall historical events quicker than we do but some of us only concentrate on what we are most interested in. One of the articles that we discussed in class read that some younger students couldn't identify and state what an "Colored Only" sign was in the museum. I personally say that in some eyes this could be good, only reason being is because they haven't had any racial experiences where they had to know what it was and the history behind it. On the other hand some people will say that they have to learn more of their history and learn about the things that happened so that we can have racial equality today. We as the younger generations may have some things to work on and learn more but being judged as the dumbest generation is taking it too far!

Blog #2: Addicted to the Virtual and Social worlds!

As I payed attention to the video clips and to some of my college friends, I noticed that we are all wrapped around in the games and the social networks. Games such as the ones like halo or any other games. I can attest to being around some one who is addicted to a internet game.My little brother would argue over the computer, he and his friends are all online playing the same game and occupying the telephones while doing so.  A statement that stood out to me, was that the virtual world was effecting the minds consciously and   sub-consciously. And as far as the social networks, I can say that it is now face book and twitter is on the rise. I absolutely believe that this is ridiculous. We are allowing the virtual and social worlds to interact for us. Instead of calling or actually going to meet up with someone, we actually hook up on the internet and have a relationship like that. I consider the two of these noise because it blocks the "face to face" relationship that we should have with one another. People can be on the computer for more than 3 hours during the day. Our days are wasted on these games and social networks. Its sad to say, but WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TOO!!!!!

Blog #1: Something about Precious

Well Hello my name is Precious Bryan and Iam a second semester sophmore at shippensburg University. My major is Accounting (YIKES!!!!).. lol but hey, "you gotta do what you gotta do!!!!!" I love to spend money on tings like clothes, accessories, shoes, bags, and beauty!!! I love talking on the cell phone and texting, and finally speding time with my family, friends, and the boyfriend!! I am from philadelphia,so the music that I like is R&B, gospel, some pop a little bit of rap, and I love reggae music. I love to watch movies. I like all movies but the favortes are romance, comedy, suspense, thriller and Horror!!! I am the goofy, silly, loud and very out going person. I love to play dancng and singng gams on the wii!!!!!!!!! But I chose this partcular Lit. class because I heard that Dr. Mortimore were one of the "Good Ones". I hear that her teaching techniques are very unique. To be honest, the last book that I actually sat down and read was called the "Black Boy" written by Richard A. Wright. This was in high school. Reading has always been boring to me. In order for me to actualy get into the book, I have to be intrested in the subject of the book. In my opinion Literature isnt only about reading, I think its more about the concept, and the abstract meanings in the reading. I also think it is the art of words! Well this is my profile!! Pease Enjoy
